Thursday April 19, 2007, - Practitioner of Musick John Burkhalter will be participating in a concert entitled "Britannia's Invitation ~ George Frideric Handel His Musick & His Times".  The program held in conjunction with a meeting of the American Handel Society is a project of Princeton University Concerts ~ Nathan A. Randall, atistic director.  In music and words, this unique program traces the London career of George Frideric Handel from the roaring success of Rinaldo, his first opera for the London stage in 1711, through his beloved oratorio Messiah of 1742, until his death in 1759.  Each musical work will be introduced by readings from a remarkable set of letters written by Mrs. Mary Delany, a contemporary and sometime neighbor of Mr. Handel on London's Lower Brook Street. The band of instrumentalists led by Nancy Wilson. Vocal Soloists, Laura Heimes, Daniel Gundlach, and Curtis streetman have international reputations as interpreters of music of the Baroque and Handel in particular. Saturday, 8:00 PM (pre-concert talk at 7:30) - Practitioner of Musick John Burkhalter will present a pre-concert talk entitled Jane Austen and the Bath Assemblies to celebrate the concert, Jane Austen’s World in Music and Dance, that will immediately ensue. The program is the last in a series presented by Le Triomphe de l’amour. Jane Austen’s novels describe town and country life in England circa 1800. She also copied, in her own hand, an extensive collection of music for her own use. Drawing on the Jane Austen Songbook as well as music mentioned in her novels and letters, this program brings her world to life. The ensemble will be joined by dancers from The Colonial Assembly, in Regency period costume, performing some of the Jane Austen’s favorite English country dances. Saturday, 3:00 PM - The Thomas Paine Society of Bordentown, in association with the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, presents Practitioners of Musick John Burkhalter and Janet Palumbo in a program enititled Mr. Jefferson and his Musical World. Thomas Jefferson was well-known for his musical interests that included playing the violin and corresponding with other like-minded frineds, including Thomas Paine and Francis Hopkinson, both of whom maintained residences in Bordentown. It is known that on at least one occasion harpsichordist Hopkinson accompanied his friend Thomas Paine, who was an accomplished singer in a Bordentown house concert. Music in Holland from the Age of Rembrandt.  A program of 17th century Dutch music to compliment an exhibition of Rembrandt etchings from the Mower collection. Works by Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck;  Jacob van Eyck, Adriaen Valerius, Anthoni van Noordt amongst other Dutch Masters to be heard.

The Practitioners of Musick in a program of music from Colonial and earlyFederal period America.  The recital will include works by Handel; Abel; Selby; Reinagle; Arne; Bremner and Duport.


April 22nd
The Bordentown Historical Society in association with The New Jersey Council for the Humanities Horizon Speaker's Bureau present: The Practitioners of Musick in a program of musick from the Francis Hopkinson keyboard Ms. and from other late 18th century American inventories including Thomas Jefferson's extensive collection.  Although well-known as Patriot, Statesman and one of New Jersey's five Signers of The Declaration of Independence, Francis Hopkinson, who maintained residences in Philadelphia and Bordentown, was also an accomplished harpsichordist and composer. Furthermore correspondence survives between Hopkinson & Jefferson pertaining to harpsichords and other music matters

Sunday - The Practitioners of Musick will perform Musick from the Age of Queen Anne and  George I at the historic William Trent House located at 15 Market Street in Trenton, New Jersey as part of a day-long celebration. Wm. Trent, a wealthy Philadelphia merchant having acquired 800 acres at the Falls of the Delaware [the present site of New Jersey's Capital - Trenton] built an imposing summer house in the Queen Anne - early Georgian style of Architecture. The house completed in 1719 is among the most important early 18th century buildings extant in America. The Historic Eastfield Foundation presents "A Day at Eastfield Village". The Practitioners of Musick will perform music from the early Federal period in America in the long room of the 1790 William Briggs Tavern. Eastfield Village is a "private collection" of more than twenty period houses, taverns, and shops, even a church ranging in date from 1787 to 1847 where artisans [cabinetmakers,  silver and tinsmiths, potters,typographers, weavers &c.&c.]  gather for a once a year public day to celebrate America's late 18th to mid -19th century craft heritage.

Sunday - The Friends of the Historic Peace Church near Camp Hill - Pennsylvania present The Practitioners of Musick in a performance of music from the early Federal period in America. The concert will feature music from the NEFF Ms. [compiled in Lancaster County circa 1790] performed on harpsichord and the rare Conrad Doll organ of 1807 an instrument original to the church.  The Peace Church built in 1798 for German farmers in the Cumberland Valley is administered by The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission. All are welcome and Donations for the concert beginning at 3 pm. will be appreciated.  The Historic Peace Church is located at the intersection of Trindle Road at St.John's Church Road nr. Monday mini recitals at 1:00 - 1:45 - 2:30 & 3:15: Organ Historical Society 50th Anniversary Meeting - The Practitioners of Musick will perform music from early Federal period America at The Farmers Museum/New York State Historical Association - Lake Road - Cooperstown, New York, 13439.
The concert will feature the 1849 Giles Beach organ housed in the former Cornwallville Methodist Church now on the grounds of the Farmer's Museum.  Works by Sicard; Hewitt; Selby &c.&c.
